It’s no secret that the legendary Land Rover LR4 is re-emerging in the 2018 model year as part of the new Land Rover Discovery series. What is a secret is how close it will be to the stunning Discovery Vision Concept, first revealed in 2014 at the New York Auto Show.
The Discovery model has been in Land Rover’s line-up for roughly 25 years, most recently known as the LR3 and LR4. When Land Rover first presented the Discovery Vision Concept, however, it was clear that the auto manufacturer known for a heritage of rugged off-road vehicles is also very comfortable blazing a new path in terms of design and engineering.
Seldom does a concept car translate directly to a production vehicle with broad appeal, but we expect many of the Vision’s technological advances to be present in the model that will actually be revealed at the upcoming International Auto Show in San Francisco, November 19-27. This may include Land Rover’s “transparent hood” system, which uses front cameras and a “heads up” display screen to show what is immediately ahead of and beneath the front bumper. Similarly, a new headlight system may allow the vehicle to scan the road and project visual driving guides for navigating tight spaces.
What we do know is that the new Discovery will boast an all-aluminum frame — aka, Premium Lightweight Architecture — making it lighter than the LR4 it replaces. That will yield a nimbler driving experience and even better gas mileage.
Beyond possessing Land Rover’s legendary off-road capabilities and state-of-the-art technological advances, we’re confident the 2018 Land Rover Discovery will present itself as a clean, minimalist trendsetter in terms of design. Unmistakably Land Rover, but with a forward thinking aesthetic that will instantly distinguish itself on the road as something entirely new.
It’s only a matter of days away. We plan to be there to see it.

Jeffrey Wang

Prior to joining Cole European, Jeffrey had no experience selling cars. In fact, he came to Cole European to make a career change and indulge his interest in cars and motorcycles. His previous job was as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer with a telecom business. Nevertheless, with just a bit more than a month now on the showroom floor, Jeffrey has proven to be a natural.
Given Jeffrey’s passion for cars and his friendly nature, working for Cole European is a great fit. Jeffrey claims that what he likes most about being with his co-workers at Cole European is that it’s more like being among family than being in an office. Relaxed, supportive, and focused on helping others.
Jeffrey was born in Los Angeles but his family soon moved to Taiwan. His first language was Mandarin Chinese and he further learned to speak Cantonese and Thai through his business endeavors in Southeast Asia. Jeffrey returned to the United States and ultimately graduated from Boston University with a degree in Economics.
